DAY TRIP FROM FES TO CHEFCHAOUEN
No visit to Morocco would be complete without a visit to the magical CHEFCHAOUEN.
In the morning early, your Moroccan private driver will take you to the North of Morocco Chefchaouen or Chaouen who was founded in 1471 as a small fortress by Moulay Ali Ben rashed. It is known as the «blue city» for its indigo blue walls and colorful narrow streets and traditional buildings. It was under the Spanish occupation and was emancipated in 1956, that’s why when you will be there you will feel and touch a huge Spanish influence in the culture, and architecture.
You will see and walk inside the medina and you will have the opportunity to enjoy a drink in the famous place ( OUTA HAMMAM ) wich is full of a very nice mint tea and coffee houses to can see the customary dress of the local women, then you will vist a very old ( Kasbah) fort, you will also walk until the highest point of the medina to see ( RAS EL MAE ) or “Head of the Water”. This spring is the source of the locally bottled water, as well as used in the local outdoor laundry area. Lunch will be a local dish in a traditional restaurant.
The medina of chefchaouen offers many native handicrafts that are not available somewhere else in Morocco, such as woven blankets and wool garments. The goat cheese, native to the area is also popular with tourists. During the drive to the beautiful city you will explore an extremely different culture and lifestyle from different big cities as fez and you will enjoy also a very nice view of Rif Mountains. (Please keep your eyes open to see thousands of olive trees).
